DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE

The Department of Community Medicine has played a crucial role in providing both theoretical and practical classes for MBBS students from their first year to their seventh semester with impressive outcomes. Additionally, we commemorate significant National Health Days.

Our department follows a well-researched undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training curriculum that is committed to delivering exceptional medical education, research, training, and the highest level of clinical care to the community. Our teaching methods include creative learning modules that emphasize hands-on practice and demonstration sessions, on-site practicums in project and community-based initiatives, PLA, community ownership, and more.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE DEPARTMENT

  1. Observance of National and World Health Days: like WHO days, world AIDS day, World breastfeeding week, world  diabetes day, world tuberculosis day etc.
  2. Health awareness programmes/ Health education activities.
  3. Organizing Seminars, workshops, Guest Lectures and Conferences.
  4. School Health Programmes, Health check-ups of Aanganwadi children.
  5. Conducting surveys
  6. Training of students – About environment & sanitation, rural health, health programmes etc

  8. Participation in the  national and state level conferences.
  9. Participation of staff in other programmes–  like medical diagnostic camps.

Rural Health Centre

Rural Health Centre is located 30 kms away from ACSR medical college.  RHTC Caters rural slum population of 60000 . The villages covered by RHTC.

 The various activities at RHTC are :

  1. Health care activities.
  2. Diagnosis treatment of minor elements free of cost. Average daily OPD is 100-120.
  3. ANC Clinic:- on every Wednesday – Registration of ANC cases, health check up and immunization of mothers.
  4. Immunization Clinic : On every Wednesday. Immunization of children against vaccine preventable diseases and immunization of mothers.
  5. Health education is provided to all OPD cases and to the community about nutrition, hygiene, environmental sanitation and infectious disease prevention and also at the time of awareness day programme.
  6. Family Planning: – Distribution of oral contraceptive pills, condoms. Motivation of eligible couples for tubectomy and vasectomy.
  7. Teaching activities: – Family health survey, clinical postings, medico social case study for the under graduate students. To acquaint the students for the rural health and functioning of RHTC.
  8. Maintenance of records :- like OPD register, ANC Register, PNC Register, Immunization Register, Health Education register, School health Check Register etc.,
  9. Celebration of National Health Days:- Like World AIDS Day, WHO Day, World breast feeding week, World Diabetes Day, World TB Day etc.,
  10. Referral Services :- Referral of cases those who need investigations, hospitalization etc.,

Urban Health Centre is situated at UCO nagar, 4 kms away from ACSR,  NELLORE. The total population covered by UHC is 45,000.

The various activities at Urban Health Centre are:

  4. Eye care services :- like cataract surgeries, refractive errors, treatment of other eye conditions.
